22 July 2010 GOVT BACKS GLADESVILLE CENTRE PLAN Govt backs Gladesville centre plan
HUNTERS HILL HAPPENINGS with Mayor SUE HOOPMANN
IT’S GOOD news that Minister for Planning Tony Kelly and the NSW Government is supporting the Gladesville Village Centre.
Hunter’s Hill Council’s new village centre plan will support around 650 jobs and more than 440 additional dwellings.
Mr Kelly said one of the aims of the LEP would be to revitalise the town centre by introducing capacity for new retail, office and business premises and placing more residents close to its shops.
“This village centre plan is in line with the NSW Government’s aim to place more homes and jobs close to services and public transport,” the minister said.
“All land within the LEP is now zoned mixed use which allows residential and commercial development - the key site for redevelopment is bounded by Massey, Cowell, Flagstaff and Victoria roads.
“The LEP also zones land along the eastern side of Victoria Road between Hillcrest Avenue in the south and Pittwater Road in the north to allow redevelopment.
“The LEP provides the capacity for 16,750 square metres of additional floor space, such as office, business and retail uses, which equates to around 650 additional jobs.
“It will also support the government’s dwelling target of 1,200 additional dwellings in the Hunters Hill area, as outlined in the metropolitan strategy, by providing capacity for 443 homes close to the village centre.”
In preparing the LEP, the Council identified heritage items and the heritage conservation area in the precinct to ensure appropriate measures are in place to protect the character of the area.

NOW THAT school holidays are over and life is back to less excitement, dig out your invitation for cocktails at Deckhouse and send it in.
Immediate excitement will replace your dour mood as you look forward to sipping drinks on the deck looking up the harbour to the Harbour Bridge while being waited on with sumptuous food, catching up with friends and also helping the progress of the restoration of The Priory.
If, by chance, you cannot find it, the invitation I mean, just phone 98174546, or Council on 9879 9400, and give your contact details for another to be sent to you. At the end of this week, we will be handing in numbers, so hurry.

GLADESVILLE LIBRARY looked resplendent for the school holiday programme last week. It is so much more welcoming and inviting with new set out and displays.
The staff are enthusiastic and caring and they are trying to put new practices into operation, for example to increase the turnover of books and minimise the waiting time for those on the wait list for newly released novels in high demand.
The staff are to be commended for their continuously visionary approach. They have also increased enormously the variety of children’s story books with a purchase of several thousand dollars worth of bright, new, exciting picture books.
It’s well worth a visit to check out the new look and new stock of books for the young.
