20 July 2010 TEST CAP FOR HOOKER HUGH Test cap for hooker Hugh
LIGHTNING has struck twice for rising rugby hooker Hugh Roach (pictured) of Hunters Hill with selection in the Australian Schoolboys rugby team for this year’s tour of Samoa and New Zealand.
The talented Roach, who toured the United Kingdom with the 2009 national schoolboys squad, shapes as a key forward for the young Aussies when they line up in two tests on the six match sojourn from September 18 to October 7.
Hugh,17, is one of three Newington College students to earn Australian caps and will be joined by Balmain S.G Ball rugby league prospect Joel Luani and Apolosi Latinupulu.
A product of the Hunters Hill junior rugby nursery, Roachcaught the eye of selectors with his enormous work rate and mobility for NSW Schools number one side at the recent Australian Schoolboy Championships in Queensland.
Hugh hails from good rugby stock - he is the son of former Western Suburbs first grade hooker Graham Roach who served the Pirates with distinction and the kid brother of Hunters Hill first grade hooker Nick Roach.
